Frequently asked questions
How it works, coverage and licensing
How does Tallgrass Heating & Air work?
You call or send a request, and we connect you with an independent, licensed heating and cooling contractor who serves your ZIP code. The contractor quotes and performs the work directly.
Is Tallgrass Heating & Air an HVAC company?
No. We're a referral service. The contractors in our network are independent businesses responsible for their own licensing, pricing and work.
What areas do you cover?
The Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line, including Kansas City (MO and KS), Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Liberty, Gladstone, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee and Leawood. Check your ZIP on the locations page.
Does it cost anything to request service?
No. Requesting service is free. You only pay the contractor for work you approve.
How do I check an HVAC contractor's license?
Missouri cities license mechanical contractors locally, and Johnson County, Kansas, runs a contractor licensing program. Your city's permit office can confirm a license.
Do you give prices over the phone?
HVAC prices depend on what the technician finds, so each service page explains the cost factors and the contractor quotes after seeing the system.
Does Missouri license HVAC contractors?
Not at the state level. Cities such as Kansas City, Independence and Lee's Summit license contractors and issue mechanical permits locally.
Who do I call if I smell gas on the Missouri side?
Leave the home and call Spire's emergency line or 911 from outside.
